Saturday April 1st
Session 1: 45 mins
Ba Duan Jin Qi Gong
The Ba Duan Jin or 8 Pieces of Brocade is one of the oldest forms of Qi Gong created by General Yeuh Fei to improve the health of his soldiers. We will be steadily learning the entire set of 8 movements over the next few workshops and going into the theory and principles as we progress.
These will give you an understanding of the roots of Qi Gong and will then be able to grasp the key of the practice and grow from there. You will understand not only what you are doing but also why you are doing it.
We will be learning about Chi energy, how to strengthen it and maintain your health. We will discover the root of all Qi Gong practices, the Jing, Chi and Shen as well as their interrelationship.
We will learn how to regulate the body, breath, mind, Chi, & Shen (Spirit).
Every piece has its own poem or song to explain the exercises and its purpose. These have been passed down through generations and are extremely useful to get a deeper understanding of the principles of each movement.
In this workshop we will look at movements no.1-3 which focus on the San Jiao (Triple Burner), Kidneys, Stomach, Spleen & Liver.
Session 2: 45 mins
Quan Shen Fang Song Gong
‘Whole Body Relaxed’. The word Fang means “to release”, and suggests that relaxation is not just the lack of tension but is an activity. Quan Shen Fang Song Gong is alive, alert relaxation. It means letting go of unnecessary tension, being supple and alert to your surroundings.
Relaxation is the most important principle in Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Today we introduce ‘Fang Song Gong’ and will continue to explore and develop the practice in forth coming workshops . The focus in these sessions will be to get an understanding and a personal experience that you can then take away and continue to work with.
Gradually you will get an understanding of how you can incorporate this level of relaxation into everything you do.
Break for tea and cake & chat – 30 mins
Session 3: 45 mins
Exploring the Breath.
We will be starting to explore the breath this year. By being more aware of your breath it allows you to explore and recognise the felt experience of your deeper unconscious and conscious emotional tensions. With practise and increased awareness you will naturally discover ways to release and let go of your negative emotions.
It will help you to recognise when you are being drawn into a stress-cycle and empower you to adjust appropriately.
It will help your nervous system to adjust and respond to outside pressures before they build up to harmful levels.
It will help you to build strong relaxation patterns that will affect every area of your life.
