10 Hot tips to be Stress free

By Rob Bowley 5 Comments

Does life seem to be getting more stressful and you’d like to learn how to relax?

relaxing sea scenery With our lives getting increasingly busy and crammed full from the moment we get up to when we collapse back in bed. exhusted at the end of the day..it is no wonder that we are getting more and more stressed.

I used to wake up everyday feeling stressed out mentally and physically. Without paying enough attention to what’s going on the situation usually gets worse leaving many to face a lifetime struggle with a stress related condition.

I suffered from a chronic inflammatory bowel condition called ulcerative colitis for many years but I learned how to heal my body and completely turn my life around.

Here are a few ways you too can become stress free and live in flow.

1.) Get enough sleep – there is nothing worse than waking up after a bad night not having had enough sleep. It can disrupt your whole day and can lead to a serious lack of energy and drive. Make sure you leave plenty of time to relax before you go to bed. Allow time for your mind to settle before you close your eyes and drift off. Try a relaxing breathing exercise to get you settled and ready for sleep.

2.) Practice Gratitude and Celebrate Success – Have two notebooks by your bed. Before you go to sleep write down two things that you are grateful for that day. Remember a universal law is at play all the time..what you focus on expands, what you feel you attract. By focusing on the things we are grateful for, even the small things, you help to attract more of that into your life.

The other notebook is your success diary. It is really important to celebrate your small successes as this will prepare the way for your larger successes. By regularly doing these activities we train the mind to focus on what is good in our lives and as a result sows the seeds for more positivity in our lives and dramatically raises your energy levels.

3.) Wake up with awareness – it often becomes the norm to wake up in the morning and be instantly consumed by planning projects, worrying, stressing about the day ahead etc. This immediately sets up a stress cycle that will most likely last the whole day. We go through the day with our minds being dragged off onto one stressful thought after the other.

The next time you wake up..PAUSE…and you will become aware of a brief, fleeting moment where there is no thought…the mind is clear. This moment is all too often bulldozered through by our unrelenting self-talk which is not always working in our favour!

So when you notice that clear space as you awaken to the day, press the pause button and rest in that space a moment, present and aware. You will then come to realise that you have the power to choose what to focus on, where to direct your attention. Ask yourself is it empowering or disempowering me?

4.) Learn tai chi or qi gong – this has got to be included in my list. It has helped me so much over the years to learn how to deal with stress, heal my body and gain more clarity and understanding over my thoughts, feelings and energy. In my online course you will learn a simple qi gong routine that will immediately enable you to start relaxing and feeling more energetic. If you are interested in this course please contact me for more details.

5.) Have a regular morning routine – I have found that having a regular morning routine sets me up for the day and enables me to navigate my way through the day with ease and flow. Here’s what I include:

a.) Tai Chi, Qi Gong or Meditation

b.) A healthy breakfast full of vitality enhancing foods that support me through the day.

c.) Read a positive, life enhancing book! (I am a self-confessed book-aholic!)

d.) I often use a creative visualisation technique or talk through a series of positive affirmations to get my mind into the zone and focused.

6.) Become aware of your self-talk and emotions – by listening to our self-talk and becoming aware of our emotions we put ourselves back into the driving seat of our lives and begin to take conscious control. We can then train the mind to become present and aware of the empowering or disempowering thoughts running through our minds and start to process them and as a result become less reactive and more able to respond consciously to our experiences.

7.) Become Present – Taking up tai chi, Qi Gong or Meditation is a great way of training the mind to become aware of the present moment. Alot of the time we spend worrying about the past or fear of what the future might hold when neither of these actually exist. The only moment that actually exists is the present moment, right now. By bringing the mind back home to the body through tai chi and becoming present in the here and now, we can begin to let go of the years of tension both mentally and physically leaving you feeling relaxed and renewed.

8.) Love yourself – I’ve noticed over the years how this advice is often spoken about with awkwardness and frequently dismissed as unimportant! However it is such an important area to delve into and one which will bring huge emotional and physical rewards when explored thoroughly. There can be very deep seated conditioning, painful emotional trauma or sabotaging self-talk preventing one from fully accepting, embracing and loving oneself. Not only does this cause alot of pain and suffering for the individual but it will surely seep into all other relationships becoming a damaging influence. Definately one to include on this list!

9.) Learn how to breathe with your whole body – Generally we take the breath for granted but you can learn to breathe in such a way that it will help you to relax, release tension from the body, massage all the internal organs, boost your immune system, stimulate your cardiovascular system and re-energise mind and body, all whilst you breathe! The list of benefits of breathing with your whole body as in tai chi and qi gong will amaze you.

10.) Smile to yourself and offer your smile to the world and then the world will smile back to you.

I hope that inspires you to try a few of these tips yourself

To Your Success

Thank you for this good advice. I think loving yourself is probably one of the hardest things to do but it is something I have come to realize that is so important especially after being a carer for most of my life -so I’m working on that in particular

What a helpful list. Being present is so important – no wonder we feel dragged down when we’re so often somewhere we don’t need to be (ie the past or the future). I realise now that I live very much by the past and how it’s affected me as well worrying about an unknown future. Being present is liberating and so much easier to deal with! Like all habits, this one will take time to break but worth persevering I think. Thank you, Rob, and thank you for the reminder to SMILE
