Do you notice sometimes how tense you feel?
Do you find your mind is on the go all the time?

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who was going through a difficult time and finding life very stressful. They found by the end of the week that they were tense, anxious, exhusted and generally not in a good place.
I think we’ve all been there and many people are in that position everyday, stuck in the relentless cycle of stress.
I remember how I used to wake up everyday with a huge knot in my stomach! Fortunately I learned how to ditch the stress and I got my life back.
When you look on the internet there is a vast array of equipment out there such as biofeedback machines that help train the body and mind to relax and these can cost a small fortune!

Your breath and your awareness.
“You’ve got to be kidding?” is going through your mind yes? Well to get you off to a simple stress free start…..that really is all you need.
Let’s try a simple exercise. Take 10 mins out for yourself, turn off the phones and find somewhere comfortable to lie down where you won’t be disturbed. It’s best done whilst lying down but you can also do this sitting if you want.
Close your eyes and take a moment to register how you feel right now. Tune in and ask yourself “how am I feeling”. If you’re not used to doing this it can feel a bit strange at first, however see if you can go with the flow and connect with yourself. Very often we are the very last person that we ever actually ask this important question to.
Next ask yourself how your body feels? Spend a moment getting in touch with your body. What do you notice? Can you feel any tension anywhere? How does it feel? Is it the first time you’ve noticed it or have you been aware of it for sometime?
Ok so now you’ve made a connection with your body..become aware of your breath. Spend a moment just noticing each in and out breath.
How does your breath feel? Can you feel tension in your belly as you breath? Ask yourself if you could let that go? Are you controlling or forcing your breath? Is there any way you could let that go?
Does your attention wander? Where does it go? What are the thoughts going through your mind focused on?
Can you bring your attention back to the breath?
Spend a few minutes simply focusing on each in breath and each out breath.
Now once again….reassess how you feel. Has your mind calmed down? Do you feel more relaxed? More at peace with yourself?
Almost certainly you now feel more relaxed and at peace than when you began. Simply by becoming present, reconnecting with yourself & becoming aware of your breath will transform your whole state of being in that instant.
