The best way to start the day with Qi Gong

By Rob Bowley 2 Comments

The best way to start the day

How I start the day, makes my day! I’ve always found that what I do first thing in the morning has a lasting impact throughout the day. I used to wake up and immediately get caught up in the endless tasks that I had to achieve & would often stumble through the day in a stressed out rush and not get very much done at all. Almost certainly I would end up feeling exhausted and drained!

Does that sound familiar?

Well I got fed up with feeling like that and found another way!

I discovered that by choosing a regular daily practice of Qi Gong as soon as I get up completely transforms how my day unfolds.

By becoming more centered, rooted and balanced we discover an inner resilience that supports us through the day. Our energy levels increase and we are much more able to navigate our way through stressful moments with more clarity and ease.

Here are 5 Benefits when you start the day with Qi Gong

1. Become Present

By focusing on the breath we start to become more present and in the moment. Gradually the busy thoughts take less importance in our heads and we discover a wonderful state of peace and calm. This can take some practice at first as the busy monkey mind has other ideas!

2. Connect with your body

As we become more present we start to actually listen to our body. We can explore how we actually feel. By starting to listen deeply to the messages that our body is giving us all the time we have the opportunity to release and let go of tensions that can manifest on many levels. We can hold tension on a physical, mental, emotional or energetic level for example.

3. Find your root.

When we start to release and let go our awareness starts to relax down through the body. Encouraging our awareness into the feet we begin to explore the connection of the feet against the floor. Quite soon we can get a sense of feeling quite grounded. The feet might even begin to feel heavy and this can increase the more we release and let go. By finding this rooted feeling we become much more stable and anchored. Although at first our physical stability is what we recognize almost immediately, it will also encourage an emotional and mental stability that will allow you to navigate even the most stressful events with ease and flow.

4. Slow down

Life can be so fast these days and its easy to fall into a hyper state that leads overtime to exhaustion. Practising Qi Gong gives our mind and body a chance to slow down. After a few minutes of moving mindfully through the exercises notice how different you feel.

5. Find the flow

By listening to the breath and noticing each in and out breath we can release tension from the breath. It is surprising that very often we hold or force the breath. One of the most common sources of tension in the breath comes from our emotions. When we start to get more connected with how we are feeling it is usual to notice a change in breathing. Fear, anxiety, anger and worry can all impact how we breathe. Letting go of these emotions will encourage the breath to find a natural rhythm, free of tension and able to express itself without resistance. Now the body can start to relax and open up. A natural expansion and return will emerge within the body. It is this natural inner rhythm that we join in with, rather than make it happen. And it is in joining in with this inner dance, ebb and flow, that we connect with the flow of life itself.

To discover how to experience life, through your breath and movement, rather than just ‘do’ life is a wonderful thing.

Have a go of the exercises in the video and let me know how you get on in the comments below.

Have fun
